About the project
The Brief
The Department of Education’s L&D team have a culture of internal professional development. Staff are encouraged to share their learning with others in weekly sessions.
I noticed that storytelling was being discussed regularly, and developed a session based on my own experience of the subject.
After the initial delivery to a small team, I was asked to present it again to a larger audience from another team.

The Solution
The Secret Sauce of Story was a 30 minute session on the fundamentals of storytelling. I presented the key points as a recipe featuring 4 ingredients.
The instructional content was supplemented with personal storytelling designed to provide an experiential learning experience. The personal story demonstrated the power of emotion in conveying a message.
I engaged participants via the use of a ‘competitive challenge’ handout - a resource that itself was part of the story.
On reflection, this session was one of the most enjoyable activities I did while in that role.
