An entertaining and informative conference session on the subject of how to improve learner engagement.

About the project
The Brief
eLearning DevCon was an annual conference for eLearning professionals held at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
I attended several ‘DevCons’ and in 2012 was accepted to speak at the conference on the topic of learner engagement - a subject that I am passionate about.

The Solution
I delivered an entertaining and informative 50-minute session on the subject of how to improve learner engagement.
Underpinned by a personal back story and plenty of humour, the presentation explored the similarities between a marriage proposal and the challenges involved in engaging people with eLearning initiatives.
Participants were also provided with a worksheet to complete to help them retain the key messages.

Testimonials
That was the best presentation I’ve ever seen at this conference. I really enjoyed how you merged the concept of marriage proposal with learner motivation. Wonderful storytelling.
Features
Imagery
The presentation was light on text and heavy on imagery. Among a range of subjects, we explored the myth of ‘engagement through existence’. Field of Dreams was particularly relatable to the American audience.
Worksheet
Participants were provided with a worksheet that captured the key messages of the session. The conclusion of the presentation was a call to action - a prompt to the audience to reflect on what they can do to improve engagement.
