About the project
The Brief
Unitywater's Permit to Work (PTW) system is critical to ensuring work is performed safely, with operational risks managed, customer and environmental impacts minimised, and infrastructure is protected from damage.
A key strategic objective for 2025-26 was the transition to a fully-electronic PTW system using the Beakon platform. A project team assessed the need for a new learning solution in support of the rollout.
When I joined the team, the PTW module development had been stalled for months, with no actionable path forward to meet the project team's requirements.
I was asked to recover the relationship with the project team, scope the learning solution, and build the product in a short timeframe.

The Solution
My approach was founded on building a collaborative relationship with the project team.
I introduced storyboarding and structured content planning to Unitywater on this project - an approach that is now 'BAU' for new solutions.
The project team could see development progress in real-time thanks to a live Content Plan and daily builds in Review 360.
The PTW system interfaces with many different operational teams. This made the consultation process complex and lengthy, with more that 140 trackable items of feedback received.
This project was one of the most challenging of my career, requiring three months' work navigating frequent change and disruption, while staying focused on the end result.
